The Week in Italy

 Monday 11-Continuing with exploring today, we went with David to the market for fruits and vegetables and then searched out a fish shop recommended to him but it was closed. I think he said everything closes between 1 and 3:30. 









He and Karen went to practice that evening and kids and I played games till bedtime.

Tuesday 12- I'm up early every morning so I take a walk and explore. Today I went the other way along the fabulous walkway by the beach and viewed the sites. It was about 3.3 km out and back.






I also met a new little friend when I got back. He was enjoying the beachside garden that someone is creating. 
Every day the kids play on the beach and usually go in the water. These pools behind the rocks are great for that. 
 


Wednesday 13- I walked in the opposite direction today. I had seen people walking out on something that looked like a wharf so I went to investigate. It extends out into the water and then you can look back at the buildings.



There are benches all along where you can just sit and enjoy the day and do some people/dog watching. I didn't spend much time doing that as there is so much more to see. I continued on past a marina and found myself staring up at a huge castle. I was taking pictures through the fence until I  came to a gate which looked very inviting so I went in. It was all so  tranquil away from the street noises. I wandered up the path and then stairs to a parklike area with benches. 



 









After enjoying myself inside I found an upper gate that let me into the city on the other side. I was anxious to get home and tell Karen about this secluded spot that I thought would make a great place for her to sit and write.









Thursday 14-Up and out around 6:30 so got pic of the sunrise. 


Didn't go along the beach today, but instead I went up first street to explore the city. I wandered here and there and occasionally saw something I knew and other times had no idea where I was. I covered a lot of ground and just when I was wearing out and wondering where on earth the water was( our guiding light for direction) I came upon a sign pointing to Castillo and I knew then my way home.

Walked through an industrial district. Car repair, hardware stores, paint stores, and even a New Holland place with this mural on the side.
Came back toward the water along beside the big highway entering the city. I saw a couple of big ships docked. This was just before I got to Castillo.
Beside a residence, telling me I'm safe. 
By the time I got home, I'd gone 8.97 km. And I had a bad blister on my right heel. As soon as I found the beach I took my sneakers off and walked the rest in the sand. Karen came down with the kids to walk the dog and found me sitting on the wall. The kids played in the water and I watched.

David was taking me to a shoe store today to get new sneakers, none too soon. I had to walk there with the heel of my old sneakers turned down like a slide shoe. Found a nice light affordable pair of Addidas, but couldn't wear them till I got my heel bandaged. We went on to the market for supper supplies. 

I bandaged my heel when we got back and then relaxed for the afternoon. 
After supper they went out to play frisbee, and I went down later to watch and took the dog.

After a while I decided to join in which I guess, in hindsight, was a mistake. I got hit in the mouth with a hard shot and it broke my front tooth half off. That night I lost a few more pieces when I brushed. It doesn't hurt, but I probably look like "the other guy".
Guess I'll finish this for now and get the pictures from David for Good Friday.

  My latest caricature created from my  birthday picture at Richard's  (My teeth are definitely not that perfect, but thanks AI) March is ending and so is my visit in France. I've tried to capture and share some of the beauty, and the fun I've had. The weekend of March 21 the Elite team had a home game so I decided to go exploring for the day till game time at 4. I got off the bus in Gières and walked down to the beginning of B tram. I deposited an English book I'd brought with me at the free library at that stop. It has a note in it asking if the person who takes it would contact me. I'm anxious to see if someone will. I got on the B tram with no plan but as I went, I thought I would ride it all the way as I have done a couple other lines. It's a great way to see the city and get the 'lay of the land'. 13- Wow! It's February

  I've seen several memes of shock that it's February and I thought the same. But, I am happy for each change as spring marches toward us. Our days are getting longer and dawn comes earlier. I'm not a bird-er, but I used my Merlin app to record the pre-dawn serenade through my open window and this is the singer. He has several songs, some more melodious than others. I thought it was more than one species but Merlin only comes up with this fellow.  I walk the dog in an empty space behind the school where I can let him off leash. This is what I encountered one day as I strolled in the leaves. Don't look too closely at first, and what do you suppose I thought? It took my heart a little while to settle down from the startle factor and then I laughed and got a picture.  I attended a Tony Robbins webinar on line for 3 days, well evenings for me, because of being ahead 6 hours. I, also, was following a missing person reports from home, with no positive results as yet. Sunday 1...

14- Enjoying Olympics

We've had so much rain, so on my walk this morning, when there was no traffic, I actually heard the waterfall. It's not very visible from the road but the sound reminded me to look up.  We enjoyed Tedy's 15th birthday with his requested supper of Chicken Caesar and Joanna made chocolate chip cookies to turn into ice cream sandwiches. David's desk is in the room where I spend my time, so we've shared a lot of the highs and lows for Canada, as he works away on his football plans and watching film. Last night, while he was at practice , I witnessed Canada Women's Hockey and shared the sorrow of their overtime loss of gold. Right now I'm in the midst of cheering women's curling semi-final against Sweden. GO CANADA GO! Spring is starting to show its sweet face, but I guess, there's been an unusual amount of rain, and Karen has been telling me about hearing reports of avalanches, including one that shut down the trains to and from Valence area.  Football s...
