The Trip back to France

 We left Crotone Saturday at 1:30 by train. It took us across the toe to Lamezia about 2 hr. We changed there and had an hour to find our track and get settled. Lamezia to Salerno- 2.5 hr.  We had 2+hours to wait there so we took our food out to a square outside the station and ate and watched the natives coming and going and milling around. When they finally posted our track number we made our way to it, only to be told on the screen that the number had changed. So, we gathered our stuff and headed down the stairs again to the under the tracks walkway (subway, they call it) and up to the new platform. The train was there so we boarded and found our seats, but decided to spread out as this was an overnight trip. There were few people at first so it wasn't a problem, but with the many stops all through the night, we held our breath at each one. No one disturbed us and we did sleep, I think. That ride was 9 hours.

They were not announcing the stops through the night so when I came to I watched the time to decide when we needed to start getting our stuff ready to get off. We only had 6 minutes to get from track 18 to 2B but thankfully we didn't have to go all the way from 18 down. Our path veered off at 15 to go to track 2B. We made it.
Also, because they were not announcing, we were totally unaware that we went through Rome and Pisa. That train took us to Genoa. 
The next train was about 3 hours to Ventimiglia. It had stop after stop within Genoa before we got rolling. We had less than 1/2 hour there and on to the SNCF (French train) to St. Laurent du Var which was about an hour. When we arrived in St Laurent (their home is not actually in Nice) we walked from the station to home, about 15-20 min. We were all so glad to see our building.
Right away we emptied our suitcases and I started the laundry because tomorrow is school. Karen had calls to do and I helped the kids with their homework. Tedy and I walked to the bakery and got baguettes for lunch to have with the peanut butter I'd brought over. When everything was done they took me to the playground and we hung out there until Karen finished. Karen went and got groceries for supper and I was trying to stay awake to eat it. Needless to say, it was an early turn-in for us all.

    Grateful for the map as the atlas I'm using doesn't show Lamezia. I'm having fun following your journey!

I got off the bus in Gières and walked down to the beginning of B tram. I deposited an English book I'd brought with me at the free library at that stop. I got on the B tram with no plan but as I went, I thought I would ride it all the way as I have done a couple other lines. It's a great way to see the city and get the 'lay of the land'. 13- Wow! It's February

  I've seen several memes of shock that it's February and I thought the same. But, I am happy for each change as spring marches toward us. Our days are getting longer and dawn comes earlier. I'm not a bird-er, but I used my Merlin app to record the pre-dawn serenade through my open window and this is the singer. He has several songs, some more melodious than others. I thought it was more than one species but Merlin only comes up with this fellow.  I walk the dog in an empty space behind the school where I can let him off leash. This is what I encountered one day as I strolled in the leaves. Don't look too closely at first, and what do you suppose I thought? It took my heart a little while to settle down from the startle factor and then I laughed and got a picture.  I attended a Tony Robbins webinar on line for 3 days, well evenings for me, because of being ahead 6 hours. 14- Enjoying Olympics

We've had so much rain, so on my walk this morning, when there was no traffic, I actually heard the waterfall. It's not very visible from the road but the sound reminded me to look up.  We enjoyed Tedy's 15th birthday with his requested supper of Chicken Caesar and Joanna made chocolate chip cookies to turn into ice cream sandwiches. David's desk is in the room where I spend my time, so we've shared a lot of the highs and lows for Canada, as he works away on his football plans and watching film. Last night, while he was at practice , I witnessed Canada Women's Hockey and shared the sorrow of their overtime loss of gold. Right now I'm in the midst of cheering women's curling semi-final against Sweden. GO CANADA GO! Spring is starting to show its sweet face, but I guess, there's been an unusual amount of rain, and Karen has been telling me about hearing reports of avalanches, including one that shut down the trains to and from Valence area.  Football s...
