Feb. 26-March 4

This week was different as the kids headed back to school from a 2 week break. It's still cold. We keep wondering when warmer weather will return. The schedule for Charlie and Madeline seems to be different every day, but on Monday they had to be there for 8:00 a.m. The 2 youngest have to be at their school every day at 8:30. After everyone is in, the gates are locked so don't be late. Tedy and Joanna each have a different gate. Joanna needs to be taken to her class, but Tedy must be left at his gate. The pick-up is the same, and they don't let Tedy go till they see his escort outside.



As I said, the temperatures were cold so no exploring this week. A few trips to the Carrefore (local grocery) but not much else. The kids activities are back on track- handball, football. I found an interesting website of Moirans with some pictures.

Feb. 28-March 3 there was a display of costumes from Carnaval de Venice, leading up to a parade on Saturday. We went to see the costumes, but my camera battery ran out after the first shot.
It was pouring rain on Saturday when they were to be parading through the streets so we don't know if it took place or not. Joanna will have a party in her class on Monday and is creating a mask to wear. 
These are the kind of costumes we saw (not the actual ones). They were fabulous. 


Friday, David worked at home and Karen, Samuel and I went to Lyon. We went by bus and came back by train. When we arrived, Karen and Sam figured out where we were going and how to get there. We took a tram to near the old section of the city and then walked all around and enjoyed the sights. We located a few museums but didn't go in any. It was a bit of a reconnaissance mission for a future family outing.

One of the lovely parks. The view on the top of the mountain looked like a huge cathedral. At the other end was the 'flower tree'.
 

This park with Louis XIV in the middle seemed almost as big as Red Square in Moscow. 
We went inside this one, St. Jean Cathedral.
We walked on cobblestone pedestrian streets, passed quaint cafes and pubs, located some of the museums, passed a living statue, 
 
 

 

and ate in Le Laurencin. It was a grand day and the sun did come out for a while.
 As I mentioned Saturday poured rain most of the day, so it was an inside day except for a trip to the Carrefore (4 minute walk).
Today it is a sunny day and warmer outside. The kids and Dad have gone to the park to play and I'm am finishing another week of typing my recollections. I'm thankful for pictures to refresh my memories and carry with me.  Bonne journée .

    don't you hate it when the battery runs out when you want to take pictures. Good ones again.

  My latest caricature created from my  birthday picture at Richard's  (My teeth are definitely not that perfect, but thanks AI) March is ending and so is my visit in France. I've tried to capture and share some of the beauty, and the fun I've had. The weekend of March 21 the Elite team had a home game so I decided to go exploring for the day till game time at 4. I got off the bus in Gières and walked down to the beginning of B tram. I deposited an English book I'd brought with me at the free library at that stop. It has a note in it asking if the person who takes it would contact me. I'm anxious to see if someone will. I got on the B tram with no plan but as I went, I thought I would ride it all the way as I have done a couple other lines. It's a great way to see the city and get the 'lay of the land'. 13- Wow! It's February

  I've seen several memes of shock that it's February and I thought the same. But, I am happy for each change as spring marches toward us. Our days are getting longer and dawn comes earlier. I'm not a bird-er, but I used my Merlin app to record the pre-dawn serenade through my open window and this is the singer. He has several songs, some more melodious than others. I thought it was more than one species but Merlin only comes up with this fellow.  I walk the dog in an empty space behind the school where I can let him off leash. This is what I encountered one day as I strolled in the leaves. Don't look too closely at first, and what do you suppose I thought? It took my heart a little while to settle down from the startle factor and then I laughed and got a picture.  I attended a Tony Robbins webinar on line for 3 days, well evenings for me, because of being ahead 6 hours. 14- Enjoying Olympics

We've had so much rain, so on my walk this morning, when there was no traffic, I actually heard the waterfall. It's not very visible from the road but the sound reminded me to look up.  We enjoyed Tedy's 15th birthday with his requested supper of Chicken Caesar and Joanna made chocolate chip cookies to turn into ice cream sandwiches. David's desk is in the room where I spend my time, so we've shared a lot of the highs and lows for Canada, as he works away on his football plans and watching film. Last night, while he was at practice , I witnessed Canada Women's Hockey and shared the sorrow of their overtime loss of gold. Right now I'm in the midst of cheering women's curling semi-final against Sweden. GO CANADA GO! Spring is starting to show its sweet face, but I guess, there's been an unusual amount of rain, and Karen has been telling me about hearing reports of avalanches, including one that shut down the trains to and from Valence area.  Football s...
