4-Spring is Bursting Out All Over

It seems like this week everything broke out in colour.

And, I've had some new adventures. March had just started with my last post and now it's almost half over. I continue to walk every day and enjoy the lovely weather. I passed 200 km so far for 2025, and exploring more new paths.

Wednesday we took a trip to Romans where they have a really discounted Nike store and I got 2 new pairs of sneakers to get me through the year. It is somewhat south of Grenoble toward Valence. It is home of Robert Clergerie, a famous shoe designer, and there is even a museum of shoes. We didn't have time to go see it.

Thursday was the first time this year that we went to the market. Lifestyle is different when you have a vehicle so we've done more Intermarche shopping. We did get some fresh eggs, vegetable, meat and fish and I got some fresh dates, so plump and tasty.

Friday we were off to a new city for the day. Unfortunately, Karen had to work and Tedy was busy with friends enjoying his last days of vacation, but David and Joanna and I really had fun. We chose Friday because it is the big market day there. We went by train which is economical and fast and David didn't have to drive and we avoided tolls. It is quite a tourist spot and was full of people everywhere.

We shopped, explored some churches, had lunch, rode a merry-go-round, took an hour and half boat ride around the huge lake, and were back on the train by 5:45 tired and happy.

Annecy is an alpine town, almost to Geneva, with some cobbled streets, winding canals, and beautiful old buildings and churches.

There were so many pictures I wanted you to see so I had to make collages of them.

You can see below the park pictures are full of people just strolling or hanging out on the grass.

If you look closely in the bottom left one, you'll see the sky is full of paragliders.

Annecy is noted for it.

The castle below is built out onto the lake. Don't know who lives there.

This is the iconic church that you see on many postcards and brochures.

I called it the Venice of France, with all its canals and bridges.

On Saturday, we dropped Joanna at archery, did some shopping, then I walked home from Giere (where her club is) about 6 km.

On Tuesday, I also did a long walk exploring new paths on campus. I followed the river, then crossed over a foot bridge, walked along the other side till I managed to find another foot bridge to cross back over. I wasn't sure I would find a bridge so I was very glad I didn't have to retrace my steps.

When Karen needs a break from her studies, I continue to let her trounce me at Hand and Foot. So concludes Day 71 of my excellent adventure. 🌍

17- All Good Things Come to an End

My latest caricature created from my birthday picture at Richard's (My teeth are definitely not that perfect, but thanks AI) March is ending and so is my visit in France. I've tried to capture and share some of the beauty, and the fun I've had. The weekend of March 21 the Elite team had a home game so I decided to go exploring for the day till game time at 4. I got off the bus in Gières and walked down to the beginning of B tram. I deposited an English book I'd brought with me at the free library at that stop. It has a note in it asking if the person who takes it would contact me. I'm anxious to see if someone will. I got on the B tram with no plan but as I went, I thought I would ride it all the way as I have done a couple other lines. It's a great way to see the city and get the 'lay of the land'. 13- Wow! It's February

I've seen several memes of shock that it's February and I thought the same. But, I am happy for each change as spring marches toward us. Our days are getting longer and dawn comes earlier. I'm not a bird-er, but I used my Merlin app to record the pre-dawn serenade through my open window and this is the singer. He has several songs, some more melodious than others. I thought it was more than one species but Merlin only comes up with this fellow. I walk the dog in an empty space behind the school where I can let him off leash. This is what I encountered one day as I strolled in the leaves. Don't look too closely at first, and what do you suppose I thought? It took my heart a little while to settle down from the startle factor and then I laughed and got a picture. I attended a Tony Robbins webinar on line for 3 days, well evenings for me, because of being ahead 6 hours. I, also, was following a missing person reports from home, with no positive results as yet. 14- Enjoying Olympics

We've had so much rain, so on my walk this morning, when there was no traffic, I actually heard the waterfall. It's not very visible from the road but the sound reminded me to look up. We enjoyed Tedy's 15th birthday with his requested supper of Chicken Caesar and Joanna made chocolate chip cookies to turn into ice cream sandwiches. David's desk is in the room where I spend my time, so we've shared a lot of the highs and lows for Canada, as he works away on his football plans and watching film. Last night, while he was at practice , I witnessed Canada Women's Hockey and shared the sorrow of their overtime loss of gold. Right now I'm in the midst of cheering women's curling semi-final against Sweden. GO CANADA GO! Spring is starting to show its sweet face, but I guess, there's been an unusual amount of rain, and Karen has been telling me about hearing reports of avalanches, including one that shut down the trains to and from Valence area.
