Well another Sunday and yet another church. Today I went with my flat-mate, Liz, to her church-Church of England. It was certainly the right day, picked quite by accident. This morning they had the children's Christmas drama called " A Not So Silent Night". It was about the shepherds being on trial for disturbing the peace and the witnesses that were brought to testify. It was great and humorous and I loved the British accents. Rather than costumes they had t-shirts with their titles on the front such as- angel, shepherd, baliff, judge, prosecution, etc. It was a really unusual concept. I liked it. Apart from our school drama, which is fabulous, this is probably the only children's program I'll get to see.
Then during the announcements they mentioned that tonight was the candle light and carol sing, which would be followed by a reception across the street at the Marriott Hotel, so we decided to stay in town and go. We went to lunch at El Patio and then wandered around. We spent an hour in a book store and then had coffee and finally headed back to the church. It was a nice service with scripture readings called lessons in between the carols. Then the luxury of a great buffet at a nice hotel. The food was great. I even got to try lamb.
I don't know if they expected more demonstrations today or not but the military was out in full force on the street where we were. That's the only explanation we could think of. You probably know more about the rallies than we do because we don't get the news. We wouldn't have known anything was going on if we hadn't gone to Len and Olga's for one of Simba's birthday cakes. They told us people were upset because they believed there was tampering with the election ballots.
