Well Week 1 is finished. I heard someone say, "One down and only 33 to go." Doesn't sound so bad. It's been interesting getting to know the students a bit. Some of them we don't see very much as they're off to Russian program most of the day. Friday there was the first birthday and the usual goodies. We had pizza and drinks and cake in the little picnic area in back of the school. There's another on Monday so we'll see what he brings.
The weather has certainly become 'fall-like' this week. Although the days have been nice there's definitely a cooler air and the days are getting visibly shorter. That's the part I don't like, since I run on solar power. I took pictures out my window today so I could compare as the leaves change and disappear. I noticed a very interesting shot when I was doing this so captured it also. ...The pigeons do abound.
This morning my friend, Masha, from a previous trip here called to say she is moving and had some English books for me and her father would bring them over today. Needless to say I was delighted as I couldn't bring any with me. Little did I expect what a gift it was. I'll think I'll be set for the year.
I can also spread them around because my church has a table of books for people to help themselves each week.
On Monday I go to meet my new English student. His parents got in touch with the school and Len asked if I'd like to take him on. I decided to try, although I'm not looking forward to the long trek in the winter. It will be at least 45 min. by Metro and then a walk to his house. The 'get-acquainted' meeting is Monday. I'm told he's 14 and has intermediate English so we will see what that means. They pay well so might as well take advantage of being English, although these days it doesn't often seem like an advantage. When you spend all your time with people, including children, who speak 3 and 4 languages it makes one feel rather inadequate.
Today I strolled some more around my neighbourhood extending my boundaries each time I go. I discovered a bunch more shops including shoes and saw a Post Office which may be a good thing to know. Unfortunately, it started to rain or I would have gone farther and I haven't yet gotten myself the necessary umbrella. It also doesn't make for great drying for my clothes hanging on my balcony, but the good news from that comment is that now we have a washing machine. Life is GOOD.
...Now if I could just get the wifi to connect automatically when I turn on my computer.

Hi. I'm thoroughly enjoying reading these posts. I've been trying to pick out the titles on some of your books in the picture but I've given up. My eyes just aren't that good! So what treasures did you receive? We had book club Wednesday night at Maelstrom restaurant. The food was delicious but we had to yell to hear each other. We talked about "The Cellist of Sarajevo", which has found a place on my list of best books I've ever read. I read it last year then again now and I love it as much if not more the second time. There was so much to talk about with this book but it was hard with all the noise. There were just four of us there which was good because we could lean in to hear each other. Next month is our planning meeting so I'll send you the list once I have it all put together. Hope things are well with you. When you get a chance would you email me your mailing address? Thanks.
